5 Helpful Moving Tips

For a Stress Free Moving Experience

I must admit, I haven’t been the best at packing light for a vacation, but I am getting pretty good at moving. I had no choice, I moved 3 times within the last year!

Moving can be SO stressful, so I’ve decided to share a few tips I’ve picked up along the way. I hope they are helpful for your moving process!

  • First, I began going through all my belongings to decide what I wanted to keep, sell on Poshmark, or give to friends. It’s important to recognize what you really need vs things you can easily purchase. Bringing everything can sometimes cost more than it’s actually worth.
  • Depending on how often you move, it may be beneficial to rent a furnished apartment. Thankfully we didn’t spend money furnishing out London flat so wont need to incur moving cost for furniture. If we did, I think I still would have tried to sell it ahead of time as it may not fit in our new place anyway.
  • Two of my moves have been to other countries, so I had to visit ahead of time. While doing so, I packed 3 bags so I could leave behind as much as possible to reduce any shipping cost. I was lucky to leave my things with my family and boyfriend. If this isn’t an option, It may be worth looking in to renting a storage unit for a month or so.
  • If you’ve been utilizing your flight miles, you can most likely get an extra bag checked for free so can bring more of your belongings with you each flight. If you need to pay for extra it’s usually cost $100 (£70) per bag.  We bought reusable vacuum bags for our clothing to maximize space in our luggage. Amazon has great options at low cost, not to mention they are reusable and great for storage in smaller apartments.
  • Shipping items via a logistics company can be a bit more expensive but also totally worth it! If you are price sensitive, sea shipping is cheaper than air shipping but will take approx. 8-12 weeks to get to you. In our current situation, we decided to ship via sea and send items we wont need right away in order to keep cost down.
    • Using a shipping company can be a luxury as they provide boxes, packaging and  actually pack your items and drop them off in to your new home. Most companies offer an ale carte menu of services so you can customize what fits best for you, making it stress free!

All the best with your Move! I’d love to hear if any of these were helpful, and what methods you’ve used in the past too! Email me Xx
