Global Celebration of Pride

Pride month is celebrated every year during the month of June in commemoration of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan.

Members of the LGBTQ+ community come together as they celebrate the impact they had on history across the GLOBE. During this time, memorials are held to honor those that were lost due to hate crimes and HIV/AIDS.

PRIDE MONTH IN THE WAKE OF COVID-19

Although we are reaching some sort of normalcy, large pride parades have been cancelled. So, what does that mean for Pride month? Well, this just means that this year it’s time to get just as creative as we all did last year. Below are a few ways people are celebrating Pride month globally:

VIRTUAL EVENTS

You can never go wrong with tuning into a pride festival virtually or creating your own virtual pride event. Not only does it keep you safe but it keeps others safe from potentially contracting coronavirus. The best way to find out if your region will be having a virtual event is by going to their website to see if there are any latest announcements.

SOCIALLY DISTANCED PICNICS

Can we all agree that the great outdoors has kept us slightly sane during this time?! It’s warming up too so go catch some rays and lay out blanket. You and your friends can chat over a glass on wine and eat fruit from your  charcuterie board.

READ BOOKS & ARTICLES BY QUEER AUTHORS

There are over 50 queer authors that have written books that have changed the lives of many. If you are an ally, the best thing to do is educate yourself by learning about the beautiful stories and the historical impact of the LGBTQ+ community.

WATCH FILMS BY QUEER DIRECTORS

Grab the popcorn! Go crazy and order some pizza because you are going to really enjoy an intimate moment with your friends and family while watching these movies. You might even learn something about yourself that you had a hard to understanding prior to watching these films. For the allies, this the perfect way to grow and support others.
